Professor Dr. Ling Tau Chuan from University of Malaya has been announced as one of the winner for the Society for Biotechnology Japan’s 2017 Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize.

The Society for Biotechnology Japan recently announced two winners for Young Asia Biotechnologist Prize for 2017: Dr. Chi-Wei Lan (Yuan Ze University, Taiwan) and Professor Ling Tau Chuan (University of Malaya). The Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize stimulates research and honoured outstanding accomplishments in the field of biotechnology by young scientists in Asia other than Japan.

The award ceremony will be held during the 69th Society for Biotechnology Japan (SBJ) Annual Meeting at Waseda University, Tokyo, from September 11 to 14, 2017. The winners will deliver the Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize lecture on September 12, 2017. In addition, the laureates will be invited to contribute the Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize Review to the Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering (JBB).

Professor Ling’s research title for the award was “Recovery of biotechnological products using aqueous two phase systems”. He received his doctor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2002, and has been serving as a Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya since 2011. Professor Ling is also the Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Current Biochemical Engineering.

He has more than 10 years of research experience in the field of downstream processing and bio-process engineering. His interests are in bioseparation especially protein recovery from enzymes, microalgae, and food. His current research mainly focuses on clean energy, green chemistry, cultivation of algae in wastewater for biodiesel production, bioprospecting microalgae for useful proteins. To date, he has published more than 150 international peer-reviewed journals and presented more than 80 conference papers.
