QU to co-organize international conference on “Law and Digital Age”

Qatar University colleges of Law (LAWC) and Engineering (CENG) launched their upcoming international conference on “Law and Digital Age” at a press conference yesterday held at the University.

Details of the 2-day conference (February 19-20) were outlined by LAWC Dean Dr Mohamed Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, CENG Dean Dr Khalifa Al-Khalifa, and KINDI for Computing Research Director Dr Noora Fetais in the presence of Ooredoo Qatar Chief Operating Officer Mr Yousuf Abdullah Al-Kubaisi, Director of Communications and Public Relations Ms Manar Khalifa Al Muraikhi and Sponsorship Manager Moza Khalid Al Muhannadi, as well as LAWC and CENG faculty and staff and representatives of the local media.

Organized under the patronage of H.E. Mr Jasim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications, and sponsored by Ooredoo Qatar, the conference aims to highlight the fast development and legal challenges in the field of digital technology and to find ways to develop the country’s legal system. It also aims to underline the effectiveness of legal regulations to solve these issues and challenges and the necessity to propose legislative and technical approaches that keep with the fast technological and technical development in the area of information and communication technology.

The event’s program includes five sessions titled “The latest developments in electronic transactions”, “The rights of digital world and the fight against cyber terrorism”, “The new trends to fight electronic terrorism and ensure cyber security”, “Data and privacy protection in the digital age”, and “Electronic means in the resolution of disputes”.

In his remarks, Dr Mohamed Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi said: “This conference comes at a time when the world is undergoing a fast technological and technical development in the area of information and communication technology. This has resulted in the emergence of a new life which totally dependent on modern technologies and which requires a legal control. This conference will contribute to providing efficient approaches to face the legal challenges in the digital world and to specify the legislative, judicial and administrative needs at the local, regional and international levels.”

Dr Khalifa Al-Khalifa said: “Through participating in this conference, we strive to add value to the field of digital age and cyber security research at a time when we are facing huge challenges in this field at the governmental, institutional and individual levels.”

Dr Noora Fetais said: “It is our responsibility to drive collaboration between QU colleges and research centers in coordination with our partners from society in order to support the laws and various systems to find the efficient solutions without preventing the technology sector from achieving its goals while maintaining the integrity of community members and infrastructure networks. Through participating in this conference, we support the National Cyber Security Strategy which is the roadmap towards the improvement of cyber security in Qatar.”

Mr Yousuf Abdullah Al-Kubaisi: “We are pleased to provide support for this important conference, which will have a significant impact on the future of digital laws and regulations in Qatar.
