The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is a non-profit international research center with staff from 45 countries. We have an opening for a Science Writer/Editor, to be based at the headquarters in Aleppo, Syria.
The position is designed for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person interested in building experience in an international environment. The incumbent will report to the Head of Communication, Documentation and Information Services at ICARDA headquarters.
Responsibilities:
• Write/edit and coordinate prepress and printing of both technical and non-technical publications, posters and other public awareness material
• Write press releases, media backgrounders and magazine articles
• Work as a member of the ICARDA website team and write/edit appropriate material to enrich and update the site
• Any other responsibilities assigned by the Head of the Unit
The position requires practical experience in Microsoft Office applications, and modern prepress technology. The successful candidate will be expected to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Qualifications and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a related discipline (Master’s preferred)
• Degree or at least three years practical experience in journalism with emphasis on editing and publishing
• Excellent inter-personal skills, and ability to work as a team member with colleagues of different nationalities/cultural backgrounds
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
