Taiwan Innotech Expo 2018 Concludes with Success; Cross-Domain Innovation Wins International Acclaim

Show attracted over 40,000 visitors, with more than 1000 technological and patented products demonstrated

Taiwan Innotech Expo 2018 came to a closure successfully on 29th September 2018, with over 40 thousand visitors — from domestic and international professionals to the general public — during its 3 day run. A total of 33 countries (regions) participated this year, among them the United States, China, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, Germany, Thailand, Korea and Singapore being the top 10. The Expo counted with diverse topics this year, and won praise from international visitors. Over a thousand technological and patented products were demonstrated across various themed pavilions, including the Future Technology Pavilion: a self-driving bus launched through a collaborative effort between the Asian Silicon Valley Development Agency (ASVDA) and major technology leaders in Taiwan, with an integrated IoV system and cloud control platform, and which offered visitors a glimpse into the future of intelligent transportation; the Sustainable Development Pavilion: models of domestic offshore wind farms were presented on site, with infographics which provided visitors with insights on the government's progress regarding its wind power initiative; the Innovative Invention Pavilion: Taiwan's first smart, green mobile coffee truck, which uses lithium-iron battery technology to power energy-hungry appliances (coffee machine and steamer, etc.), provided freshly brewed coffee for visitors while staying eco-friendly; and the Excellent Invention Pavilion: Showcase Gold Award winners from international invention exhibitions, and previous Platinum Award winners from our own show, covering ICT, power measurement, biopharmacy, mechanical engineering and household supplies, etc. We employed tour guides to offer group tour services and provide on-site information this year. It was well received, attracting 23 groups and totaling around 360 visitors. Many visitors this year were actually colleges, universities and high school students, and we are glad to have the opportunity to inspire new generations and expose them to innovative technology and patented inventions. Many exhibitors achieved great results. Dotterel, a drone manufacturer from New Zealand, came here mainly in search of business partners. Being able to get in touch with Taiwanese UAV manufacturers and showcase new technologies to potential customers offered great opportunities for them. First-time exhibitor Chuan Yuan Information stated that the smart packaging machine co-developed with Chi Mei Corporation got many inquiries from foreign buyers, something made possible by their participation exposure. 2017 Platinum Award winner Dr. Meng-Chuan Chen said her proprietary silk fibroin dressing caught the attention of a biotechnology company CEO from the United States, and follow-up business development looks promising. Platinum Award winners for this year were also unveiled today. This award represents the highest honor of the Expo and was presented by the Director General of the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO), Ms. Shu-Min Hong in person. A total of 704 entries from 20 countries contended for the award this year. After a two-stage review process consisting of paper review followed by live inspection, we handed out 17 Platinum Awards, 117 Gold Awards, 122 Silver Awards and 160 Bronze Awards, totaling 416 winners. The only foreign Platinum Award winner this year was TWOGETHER BIKES from Germany. The biggest domestic winner was Chung Yuan Christian University, nabbing 16 wins collectively in Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in addition to one Platinum Award. We will continue promoting award winners to make the Expo the best platform for trading and showcasing patented inventions.
