Are you the next Innovator Under 35 in Asia Pacific?

Innovators Under 35 expands its remit to the top 20 in the region.

9 April 2019 (SINGAPORE) – The quest to improve the way we work and live is an ever progressive one, where scientists and researchers are paving the way for humanity to make the next great leap forward. This year, the Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific competition is expanding the list of scientists and entrepreneurs it honours from the original list of 10 to 20. The call for nominations is now open for the most promising young innovators under the age of 35 in the region.

“We are expanding the list of honourees to give more innovators the chance to shine. Asia Pacific has a massive geographic reach and expanding the list will allow more scientists and entrepreneurs to be honoured for one of the most prestigious awards that will help them accelerate their careers,” said Antoinette Matthews of MIT Technology Review in Cambridge, MA. Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific is one of the region’s top award for young innovators in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong S.A.R., Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan. Sixty young Innovators Under 35 have been honoured since the competition was established in 2014.

“Being listed as one of the Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review is an incredible honour for me. It’s praise for my efforts in the past, and an inspiration for my research in the future. Due to this prestigious award, my research has received wide recognition and attention from Australian and international media, which is invaluable for me” said Wenyue Zou (Innovator Under 35 Asia Pacific honouree 2019), a post-doctoral researcher at Ian Potter NanoBioSensing Facility, RMIT University.

“I strongly encourage all young scientists to submit their research for consideration. Six months ago, when my supervisor nominated me as an Innovator Under 35, I didn’t think that I would stand a chance. I guess sometimes we underestimate the value of our own work. Submitting our research for consideration for such a prestigious award can really help us build our ambition and improve our confidence. The experience is priceless.” said Wenyue.

For another regional honouree, Loi Luu, the CEO and Founder of Kyber Network in Singapore (pictured below), EmTech Asia was a good opportunity for him to understand how various technologies are changing the world every day, and a way to get to know the other innovators in his cohort. “Being selected as an Innovator Under 35 has boosted my confidence and helped others recognise the work that my team and I have been doing. Ice hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky was once quoted as saying that one misses 100% of the shots that one doesn’t take. I encourage young scientists to use the application process as a personal reflection of their research and how to create an impact in this world.”

Innovators Under 35 is the most prestigious recognition worldwide from MIT Technology Review. Since 1999, MIT Technology Review has honoured the young innovators whose inventions and research we find most exciting. The list recognises the development of new technology or the creative application of existing technologies to solve global problems in industries such as biomedicine, computing, communications, energy, materials, software, transportation, web and internet.

MIT Technology Review showcases global list winners in the July/August issue of the magazine and online (link below). Global winners are recognised at the Emtech MIT conference on MIT campus. Regional winners are recognized through their regional EmTechs and summit events. The 20 selected innovators from Asia Pacific will be celebrated at MIT Technology Review’s EmTech Asia conference on 25 – 26 February 2020, gaining unparalleled media coverage and access to an audience of accomplished innovators, investors and entrepreneurs.

Nominations for the 2020 list are now open for submissions (link below).
