Thoughts upon receiving the Award (Paris, August 3, 2005)

Internet consists of autonomously operated independent networks. The Internet environment cannot be formed without those people who always think how to contribute to the society of the Internet from a global point of view.
This was the philosophy of researchers who engaged in establishing the early form of the Internet and Mr. Postel was the leading guide for us. It was a great privilege to personally touch his mind of service through the discussions we had on how to spread the Internet from the United States to the world.
Therefore, for me it is a special pleasure to be awarded for the Postel Service Award and I accept it as a fundamental recognition to my works. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the recommenders, the award committee, and the Internet Society who appreciated this philosophy.
I wish to share the honor of this award with all the people who made efforts together with me, particularly with my friends in Asia including Japan. Japan now has one of the best environments where we can challenge for the future of the Internet. I would like to make continuous efforts and contributions.
