Building for Clinical Research*, a cluster-type research infrastructure, was inaugrated at Shinanomachi Campus, and on 31 January, a ceremony was held at Shinanomachi Media Center at 1 p.m to celebrate its completion. At the ceremony, President Yuichiro Anzai presented a letter of appreciation to those responsible for designing, supervising and constructed the building, and a list of commemorative gifts was presented from them to Keio University. This was followed by an unveiling ceremony and a tour of the new facility.
Building for Clinical Research*, with 5 stories and a basement floor, has a total floor space of 5,600 square meters. The facility will be used mainly for several research clusters to promote research between different fields. The building itself has a utility system that enables free layout and a structural system that provides a large astylar space to offer high flexibility. It was also designed to be low-impact and long-lasting, and will be able to cope with the ever-changing needs of leading-edge medical research. On completion of Building for Clinical Research*, Professor Makoto Suematsu, Dean of the School of Medicine, expressed his hopes for the new facility. "Building for Clinical Research*, built in the memorable year of the 150th anniversary of Keio University, can be positioned as the starting point of our future vision for the School of Medicine and Keio University Hospital. As an important base for leading-edge clinical research including interdepartmental and interacademic research and for development of human resources to promote fusion of different fields, we hope that this facility will play an important role." commented Prof. Suematsu.
