UPM Among The Top Three In IPTA’S Website Competition

Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) emerged as the second runner up under the public institutes of higher learning (IPTA) category in a website competition that has witnessed 20 participations

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 Dec – Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) emerged as the second runner up under the public institutes of higher learning (IPTA) category in a website competition that has witnessed 20 participations.

UPM brought home a winning trophy and certificate of appreciation presented by Minister of Higher Education, Tan Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin to UPM’s representative, Chief Librarian, Mr. Amir Hussain Mohd. Ishak.

Among the five categories contested were Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), departments and its agencies, public institutes of higher learning (IPTA), private institutes of higher learning (IPTS), Polytechnics and Community College.

The judging of the 2008 KPT website competition was carried out on January 4th till August 8th 2008 at Sultan Idris Shah Polytechnic, Sabak Bernam.

Islamic Science University of Malaysia, (USIM) bagged the first prize and University of Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) came in second. These universities including UPM are the only winners to earn the 4-star recognition for their outstanding websites.

Director of UPM’s Information Development and Communication (iDEC), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhaimi Napis informed the media that UPM’s winning is shared mutually by UPM’s information technology team as well as the cooperation given by UPM Responsibility Centres in submitting information to ensure that the website is kept updated.

He proposed that there should be specific categories according to the functions of university; however it is up to the ministry to consider the proposal.

He also mentioned that by slotting in awards for specific categories, the competition will entail higher impact towards IPTA.
