UiTM Enters Entrepreneur Partnership

The Research Management Institute (RMI) has helped UiTM secure research and business partnerships with four organizations, Messrs Perfect Triangle, Messrs Multi Cipta Engineering, Messrs Halalgel and Messrs Lintah Royal Park to market products researched by its academics.

The Research Management Institute (RMI) has helped UiTM secure research and business partnerships with four organizations, Messrs Perfect Triangle, Messrs Multi Cipta Engineering, Messrs Halalgel and Messrs Lintah Royal Park to market products researched by its academics. A MOU signing ceremony between UiTM and the companies was held 10 August 2009 at the Grand Blue Wave Hotel, Shah Alam.

The ceremony was graced by YB Dato’ Mukkhriz Tun Mahathir, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, YBhg Tan Sri Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah, Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Professor Dr Mohamad Kamal Harun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Industrial Networking), Professor Dr Abu Bakar Abdul Majeed, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research) and the CEOs of the four organizations.

In this agreement, Perfect Triangle Sdn Bhd (PTSB) will promote and sell Perfect-T Petrol Essential, Perfect-T Diesel Essential, Perfect-T Engine Essential and Perfect-T Gear Essential, automotive related products for engine efficiency and performance. Multi Cipta Engineering (MCESB) will commercialize industrial product Spent Bleaching Earth. Spent Bleaching Earth is used in the processing of crude palm oil (CPO) that can be recycled to produce additional oil (residue) for secondary use in soap and grease production. While Lintah Royal Park has built a leech farm to produce male aphrodisiac herbs. The three companies will work closely with Prof Dr Ku Halim Ku Hamid of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering.

HALAGEL Sdn Bhd and the Faculty of Pharmacy, in particular with academic Mr Tommy Julianto Bustami Effendi, will conduct research and development to produce oral and external formulations of nutraceutical or cosmeceutical products.

The signing was organized by Research Management Institute (RMI). RMI is responsible in managing research grants for UiTM academics, which are secured from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (e-science, technofund, etc), Ministry of Higher Education (FRGS), and the private sector (Toray, FELDA, Exxon-Mobil, etc). Between 1991 and 2008, RMI managed RM 53.5 million for 302 researchers. Other than managing research funds, RMI also organizes conferences for UiTM academics to present their research and assist them to participate in local and international innovations expositions and contests.
