This success was even sweeter as Assoc. Prof. Mohamad Nasir Mohamad Ibrahim (School of Chemical Sciences) also won the Croatia Special Award for his innovation while Dr. Shahrom Mahmud (School of Physics) and Dr. Srimala Sreekantan (School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering) both won the Special Award at the research expo for their respective innovations.
In total, USM won seven Gold medals, six Silver and four Bronze medals at this prestigious exhibition that was first held in 2001.
In addition, USM grabbed the award for Best Exhibition Booth (Open Space Category) and the award for Best Design for Exhibition Booth at the expo. The design of the USM booth was based on the concept of ‘Aqua Sense-scape’, the brainchild of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs and Student Development) and Assoc. Prof. Aldrin Abdullah from the School of Housing, Building and Planning. The design emphasized the importance of water for life on earth.
The expo was officially launched by Mohamad Badri, Secretary to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Planning Division. He was representing the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili.
