Call for Applications : 1 Assistant Professor Position (Non-tenured)

1. Qualifications

* Applicants must have received a Ph.D. degree, preferably within 10 years before the starting date.
* The program invites applications from individuals who have made outstanding achievements in the fields of cell biology and metabolism study and with the ability to conduct creative research independently.

2. Research funds, laboratory space, and other support for promoting independent research

The successful applicant will be provided with the following:

* About 10 million yen as a start-up fund in the first year
* About 2 million yen per year to cover research expenses in the succeeding years (The amount may vary based on performance evaluations at the end of each fiscal year.)
* Laboratory space within Keio's research laboratory
* Other support (e.g. technical staff, equipment) from Keio's research laboratory during the first two years

3. Starting date and ď˝”erm

* The starting date will be after April 1, 2010. Details will be discussed at a later date.
* The term is for a maximum of 5 years, beginning from the employment start date.
*Two years after the start date, there will be an interim evaluation of research performance, which will determine whether the employment and research support will continue or not.
**An individual cannot hold a non-tenured position for more than 10 consecutive years at Keio University. If the successful applicant has been holding a non-tenured position at Keio for more than 5 consecutive years, this contract will end before March 31, 2015.

4. Promotions

It may be possible to be promoted to a more stable position, depending on the results of performance evaluations at the end of each fiscal year, the interim evaluation, and the final evaluation at the end of the term.
