Raja Muda of Perak dines with students

The Raja Muda Perak, D.Y.T.M. Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbudin Shah had dinner with undergraduates from Perak (Kusisdari), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) here, recently.

D.Y.T.M. Raja Nazrin Shah also presented awards to students from Perak who had performed well both academically as well as in co-curricula activities.

Four students selected to receive the award in the academic category were Hassanudin Othman, Nur Hafeeza Ahmad, and Tan Je Zhen while Mohd. Ridzuan Yahaya, the President of Kusisdari received the award for excellence in co-curricula activities.

Also present at the function were the Menteri Besar of Perak, Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir; Perak State Secretary, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Hashim; USM Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Omar Osman; and Kusisdari Advisor, Dr. Wan Ahmad Jaafar.

USM Acting Vice-Chancellor in his speech, said that USM, in particular Kusisdari, is very touched by the support from the palace and top leaders of Perak in strengthening ties with the USM campus community.

He said that the Raja Muda of Perak is a role model, one who ought to be emulated not only for his personality, charisma and brilliance but also for his leadership and outstanding abilities in putting forward ideas that benefit the people.

“The university fervently hopes that some time in the future, and in a separate session, Tuanku Raja Muda can share his experiences and his views on specific topics with the campus community in what would be a sharing of knowledge and ideas,” he explained.

USM hopes that the campus community will benefit from the presence and support of the Royal institution. He added that there is a need for a paradigm shift and that students should focus their thinking on universal issues.

“Undergraduates are not here merely to seek knowledge, but they should look at the larger issues including the environment, humanity, natural disasters and how to tackle these issues,” he said.
