The group, led by FORDA Director General Dr Tachrir Fathoni, was welcomed by FRIM’s Deputy Director General (Research), Dato’ Dr Abdul Rashid Ab. Malik, several directors and research officers.
The first FRIM-FORDA bilateral meeting was held in February 2007, and this was quickly followed by a second meeting which led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties on 5 April 2007. Subsequently, meetings have been held alternately in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Bogor, Indonesia to discuss common research interests based on the MOU.
The common interest areas include carbon and clean development mechanism (CDM); urban forestry; management of second growth forest; forest products; capacity building on the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD); biotechnology and herbal research; and forest plantations.
After the meeting, the Indonesian delegates were given a tour of the newly-launched FRIM Research Gallery.
