SUKUM 35: VC urges USM to show strength of kinship

he Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) contingent has been urged to turn the spirit of kinship among the campus community into a major weapon of strength in the 35th Malaysian Universities Staff Games (SUKUM) which will commence on 17 June 2010.

Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said that the strong ties of kinship that prevails in the university clearly sets it apart from other universities and it must be turned into a source of strength for the USM contingent.

“I would also like to remind all the athletes, especially those representing USM to be professional during the games, to play in the spirit of sportsmanship and not in anger or frustration,” he said during his meeting with the 348 athletes of the USM contingent and 200 USM volunteers today.

At the same function, he presented the flag to the USM Registrar, Haji Azman Abdullah, who is also the Head of the USM Contingent.

Prior to this, all athletes attended the ‘Bina Juara USM’ Programme which was coordinated by the Director of the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute, Dr. Haji Ramli Saad. The aim of this programme was to build up the spirit and mental resilience of the athletes representing USM in this major tournament.

Also present at the function were Prof. Dato’ Omar Osman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Development), Prof. Asma Ismail, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), and En. Mohd Pisol Ghadzali, Chief Librarian, USM.
