Nominations sought for TWAS Prizes and Trieste Science Prize

TWAS, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, is seeking nominations for its two prize schemes, the TWAS Prizes and the Trieste Science Prize, both of which are aimed at honouring scientists living and working in developing countries. The closing date for nominations for both awards is 31 March.

Trieste Science Prize

The Trieste Science Prize, sponsored by Trieste-based Illycafe, has been established to give international recognition and visibility to outstanding scientific achievements made by scientists from developing countries.
Each year it is given in two different fields. In 2006, prizes will be awarded in the fields of Mathematics and Medical Sciences.
Each prize will carry a monetary award of US$ 50,000 and a plaque.
The deadline for receiving nominations is 31 March 2006.

TWAS Prizes

TWAS Prizes are aimed at recognizing and rewarding the scientific work performed by individual scientists who live and work in developing countries.
Each year, prizes are given in eight different fields: Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Mathematics, Medical Sciences and Physics.
Each prize carries a monetary award of US$10,000 and a plaque bearing a citation highlighting the major contributions for which the prize is awarded.
The deadline for receiving nominations is 31 March 2006.
