USM STRENGTHENS AND CONSOLIDATES GENDER EQUITY RESEARCH

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has forged collaborative ties with The Good Governance and Gender Equality Society (3G’S), a non-government association to explore further opportunities to develop research and project related to gender equity.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industrial & Community Network), Prof. See Ching Mey said that smart partnerships, such as this, is in line with USM efforts to nurture the spirit of knowledge sharing that can bring about changes to the society.

She said that apart from the facilities for optimum research and learning, USM has academic experience and expertise in various disciplines, including gender equity.

“Basically, USM has the vision to develop, disseminate and apply knowledge in a manner that can contribute to total, inclusive, just and equitable race development, including matters like social justice and gender equity,” she added.

She said this at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between USM through the Women’s Development Research Centre (Kanita) and 3G’s here, today. Also present were President of 3G’s, Chong Eng and Deputy Director of KANITA, Dr. Noraida Endut.

A book, titled Gender and Rights: Analysis for Action (2011) by Prof. Cecilia Ng Choon Sim, a freelance researcher and visiting lecturer at USM was launched in conjunction with the MoU signing ceremony.
