Pratap Bhanu Mehta wins 2011 Infosys Prize

Former International Development Research Center (IDRC) governor Pratap Bhanu Mehta has received the prestigious 2011 Infosys Prize for Social Sciences – Political Science in recognition of his contributions to Indian public policy and international relations.

Dr Mehta served on IDRC’s Board of Governors from 2007 to 2011 and has been a Special Advisor since July 2011. Educated at Oxford and Princeton, he has taught at Harvard and Jawaharlal Nehru universities. He is one of India’s most prolific media commentators on social and political affairs.

In its citation, the Infosys Science Foundation said that “Dr Pratap Bhanu Mehta has established himself as one of India’s finest scholars and public minds, who has inspired a new generation of intellectual enquiry. He has contributed not only to political philosophy and social theory in general, but has also addressed urgent issues of Indian politics and public policy.”

The Foundation presents awards annually in five categories to honour outstanding researchers who have made a difference to India’s future. By recognizing and rewarding their accomplishments, it hopes to promote scientific research in India and inspire young Indians to pursue careers in science.
