The three-year ASEAN-Canada Research Partnership, funded by IDRC, will support research collaborations among Southeast Asian and Canadian scholars. The program, jointly managed by Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and the University of British Columbia, will award research fellowships to ASEAN and Canadian scholars. It will also commission policy papers and organize annual Canada-ASEAN forums on strategic issues. Topics will include regional inequity, changing demographics, and environmental and energy concerns.
The new research partnership was announced at an event in Jakarta marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Canada relations. IDRC has supported development research in the region since 1971, and has played an important role in strengthening links between Canada and the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN.
