USM signs MoU with Malaccan Government

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has signed an MoU with the government of Malacca to establish the Cancer Center at the Putra Specialist Hospital, Malacca, and work together to promote and implement green technology in Malacca by Hang Tuah Jaya Corporation.

The signing was held at the Chief Minister of Malacca, which was witnessed by the Chief Minister, Dato 'Seri Mohd. Mohd Ali Rustam. USM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato 'Dr. Omar Osman, while Putra Specialist Hospital (Malacca) was represented by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Radhuana Salleh and Hang Tuah Jaya Corporation was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Linda Sue Lin Phua.

Also present were Director of Health Campus, USM, Assoc. Dato 'Mohamed Mafauzy and Director of Education and Training for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CETREE), Assoc. Haslan Abu Hassan, who also signed the document of understanding as a witness.

According to Omar, through this MoU, USM will help to establish a specialist cancer center through the expertise available.

"We will ensure that action is made in the near future to provide consultancy services so that the center of Malacca's desire to help patients who need it can be implemented as soon as possible," said Omar.

He added that the university is also very much involved in green technology and will strive to provide support and training expertise in implementing activities in line with the direction of the state of green technology.

"Based on this understanding, USM will be a consultant and provide expertise, collecting the data, documentation and information necessary for the success of this project," said Omar.
