UPM, ELS signs pact to enhance teaching of English in campus

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and ELS Educational Services, a worldwide institution specializing in the teaching of English, has signed a pact for the language at the UPM campus.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by UPM Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan and Mr. Mark Harris, president and CEO of ELS for their respective organizations at the sideline of the NAFSA (Association of International Educators) annual conference and expo in St Louis, USA, on 29 May, 2013.

The pact stated their joint intention to enhance to encourage the enhancement of English proficiency among the students of UPM.

The MoU also supports global student mobility via the recruitment of qualified international students to UPM and encouragement of international pathways between UPM and the ELS network of over 650 partner universities around the world, said ELS in a statement received here today.

It offers 69 study locations to teach English in university campuses, including one at the UPM campus at Serdang. The others are in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and China.

In addition, it has 14 other English Language instruction centres in Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Panama, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

Since its establishment more than 50 years ago, it has assisted more than 1.1 million international students to achieve their personal and profesional goals through English preparation and profesional counseling.

UPM, a six-star research university in Malaysia, has a student enrollment of some 30,000 of whom 3,000 are international students. – UPM
