Lee Chang Boong, a first year accounting student from University of Malaya came out tops in the P&G ASEAN Business Challenge 2014 which ended on 25th of April 2014. Lee excelled as the national champion as a member of a team comprising students from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Taylor’s University, Sunway University and Berjaya University College. Lee was the only UM participant shortlisted for national finals. The victory granted Lee a precious opportunity to represent Malaysia at the ASEAN finals at the beginning of June.

“I am grateful and proud to carry University of Malaya to triumph in this prestigious competition. I will give it my all to make Malaysia proud, to make UM proud,” wrote Lee in a statement.

The competition comprised of preparation and formulation of marketing strategy for P&G products, followed by execution of the strategy. Throughout the competition, students were given training on subjects such as branding theories and consumer psychology by high-ranking officers from P&G. In addition to that, there were other sessions such as store visit and focus group research for product, designed to develop and enhance participants’ skill on marketing.

The P&G ASEAN Business Challenge 2014 will be the fourth edition in this series where the brightest ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipines, Singapore and Vietnam) young talents will get a first-hand experience of working in P&G and experience working with P&G ASEAN Leaders. This will be an intensive and gruelling competition with lots of fun to unleash their leadership skills and business talents.

Thirty students from each local market were selected to undergo a four- day residential student equity event, where they were placed in multi-campus teams and asked to embark on a ‘real-life’ business challenge. During the National Finals, participants came up with marketing/sales plan for one P&G multi-billion dollar brand as well as executing the plan.

This Business Challenge is designed not only to give participants hands-on experience of working in P&G, but also to test their abilities to be P&G Leaders.
