UNMC students win HSBC Malaysia Business Case Challenge 2015

A team of students from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus has won the HSBC Malaysia Business Case Challenge 2015.

A team of students from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) has emerged champions of the HSBC Malaysia Business Case Challenge 2015. The team, T&F Consulting, will represent Malaysia at the regional HSBC/HKU Asia Pacific Business Case Competition 2015, organised by the Asia Case Research Centre of The University of Hong Kong. The Competition is scheduled to take place over three days from June 3-5 2015, with the initial rounds at The University of Hong Kong and the final round at the HSBC Main Building in Central, Hong Kong.

Team T&F Consulting consists of Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) undergraduates Charles Tan Wen Fei, Tan Lee Xiang, Fabiolla Netto and Tan Kok Pin.

“NUBS Malaysia continually emphasises the importance of bridging academic learning with corporate practice, and we are very proud of our students who have come so far in their achievements - and now onward to Hong Kong to compete at the regional level," said Dr Chuen-Khee Pek, Principal Mentor of the Business School’s Student Competition Mentoring Group (Mentors+) and Senior University Teaching Fellow of Green Economics at NUBS Malaysia.

The team found the experience rewarding, as the competition provided them with a platform to apply concepts learnt in the classroom to real-life situations. According to the team leader, Tan Kok Pin, the competition has brought the team members closer and made them realise that to perform as a team, it is not about personal accolades; just one team with a common goal in mind - to win.

The Malaysian leg of the Challenge had kicked off with 16 teams from participating universities, from which 8 teams entered the Semi-finals and 4 teams competed in the Finals, which took place on May 13, 2015 at the Best Western Hotel Petaling Jaya.

As Champion, Team T&F Consulting received a cash prize of RM15,000, together with trophies and certificates.
