MoU on demography, socio-economy signed between UPM and Statistics Department

Universiti Putra Malaysia and Malaysia's Department of Statistics Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation and to identify opportunities for collaborative research and development in the areas of demography and socio-economy.

SERDANG, Feb 22 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation and to identify opportunities for collaborative research and development in the areas of demography and socio-economy.

The MoU was signed by UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris and DOSM Chief Statistician, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Hasan.

It was witnessed by Prof. Dr. Tengku Aizan Hamid, UPM Director of Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing UPM, and Ismail Yusof, DOSM Deputy Chief Statistician (Economic).

Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini said such collaboration would bolster and strengthen strategic partnership in many fields for the benefit of both parties and the country.

“The main objective of the MoU is to identify opportunities for collaborative research and development in demography and socio-economy,” she said in her speech at the MoU signing ceremony held at Canselori Putra here.

She said statistics and figures were vital in not only supporting teaching and learning activities but also in producing strong, in-depth researches or journals.

Meanwhile, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman said data requirement is a prerequisite in making an analysis or research more comprehensive.

“MoU and other form of cooperation such as this help to support the government’s aim for higher learning institutions to produce more researchers,” he said. – UPM.
