UPM Receives Recognition From RSC International Accreditation Committee

Three Bachelor of Chemistry programmes by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) received international accreditation recognition from the Royal Society of Chemisry (RSC), headquartered in the United Kingdom

The recognitions were accorded to the Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry, Bachelor of Science Honours in Industrial Chemistry and Bachelor of Science Honours in Petroleum Chemistry.

RSC Accreditation and Validation Committee, in its meeting recently, agreed to give accreditation to the three programmes as they were able to fulfil all academic requirements for the CChem award for holders of the First and Second Class degree.

RSC Accreditation Manager, Toby Underwood said the committee was interested with the overall structure of the programmes, in particular those with emphasis on the practical and theory elements.

“These elements are not always available at other institutions and it is clear that students are benefitting from these aspects in the curriculum.

“The assessors stated that such a practice should be duly recognized,” he told Profesor Dr. Gwendoline Ee Cheng Lian from the Chemistry Department of UPM’s Faculty of Science.
