The issues of managing the university-industry-relationship in Malaysia have been emphasised and deemed to be the most importance in propelling Malaysia to be a developed nation. The Malaysian government through its several agencies (such as the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation – MTDC) is never shy in developing policies and measures to enhance the university-industry-relationship in this country.

However, several studies have highlighted that there are issues, challenges and barriers to this relationship. Therefore, this special issue is proposed to provide an interdisciplinary debate in discovering the concerns regarding university-industry-government relations for academics, industrial practitioners, government officers and policy makers.

Papers may be either conceptual or empirical, exploring the challenges and issues in local, regional and national innovation of Malaysia. Conceptual papers should develop strong arguments and new theoretical perspectives on issues related to the implications (of the university-industry-government) in the context of Malaysia. As for the empirical papers, we would particularly welcome a paper that include a complete review and critical analysis of existing literature, a clarification of research design with methodological concerns, an intensive discussion of the findings with strong valid conclusions with policy implications.

Papers submitted may include the following areas in the context of Malaysia:
1. Dynamics and Models of University-Industry-Government Interaction (such as the Triple Helix model, regional innovation system etc)
2. Knowledge and Learning networks within the university-industry-government network.
3. The role of university and its Impact on Regional Innovation
4. Role of Government within the network.
5. R&D Capacity of Industry and its impact for regional Innovation

Date of submission (full paper): 01/08/2016 (Extended deadline)
