Malaysia students emerge top in the Association of Vertical Farming competition

Two Bachelor of Engineering (Agriculture And Biosystem) students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) made the university proud when they won an international-level “Award Vertical Farming” recently.

Calling their team Inter-Farm-Market, Chong Shen Loong and Chai Yi Xue went up against 100 others from all over the world in the competition which was organized by the Association of Vertical Farming (AVF) which took place from March 1 to May 30, 2016.

A stunning achievement, they emerged champions from over 100 participants from 40 countries who took part in the contest. A total of 24 teams were shortlisted to enter the finals.

They won US$5,000 cash and were also invited to attend the 2016 AVF conference at Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, Netherlands, on June 13, 2016, where they received their cash prize.

Runners-up were the team from Netherlands while the Spanish team took third placing.

The grand cash prize was sponsored by Illumitex Inc which produces LED lights to assist in the growth of plants in Texas, USA. – UPM.
