MoU Between Malaysia Agriculture University (UPM) and New Zealand

Serdang, Malaysia - The main aim of the MOU includes promoting staff exchange programme, industry training for students, research collaboration, external examiner exchange and others.

An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Malaysia Agriculture University (UPM) and Massey University, New Zealand at the Executive Room, Faculty of Engineering, UPM recently.

In this memorable visit, both parties had agreed that it is very beneficial that the long and mutual cooperation since 1970 was proceeded to an MoU where the main reasons are to promote staff exchange programme, industry training for students, research collaboration, external examiner exchange and others.

International relationship between UPM and Massey University has already existed ever since in the 1970 era. During this era, under the Colombo plan, a few UPM officers furthered their studies in Massey University. Frequent visits between both parties were also done. In addition, to strengthen the relationship further, in February 2006, a few UPM officers had made a technical visit to New Zealand (including a visit to Massey University, Palmerston North campus and Wellington).

The signing was done by the UPM Vice Chancellor himself, YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah, and Prof. John Raine, Deputy Vice Chancellor - Auckland & International Affairs, Massey University. Witnesses of the memorable ceremony were Prof. Dr. Ghizan Saleh, the Dean for the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM and Prof. Ian Maddox, the Dean for the Science School, Massey University. Besides them, the group was also accompanied by Prof. Chris Moore, the Dean for the Business School and Prof. Wayne Edwards, the Dean for the School of Educational Studies. The ceremony was also attended by the senior officers of UPM and the management of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Before the ceremony, a discussion was held, being hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture and with the involvement of other components such as the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Economy & Management and the Faculty of Educational Studies. The group discussed on future activities that could be done between both universities in order to strengthen further international cooperation.
