Medicinal aspects of Screw Pine (Pandanus tectorius, seland).

This preliminary study on the drug Pandanus Tectorius has been experimentally studied to prove the statement told in Traditional Indian Medicine (Siddha) literatures for its uterine stimulant action.

The plant PANDANUS TECTORIUS, seland is popularly known as Screw Pine. In the Traditional Indian Systems of Medicine (Siddha & Ayurveda), this plant has been indicated for filarial disease, leucorrhoea and as Emmenogogue (uterine stimulant) apart from its aromatic purpose.

The pith of the plant can be used medicinally for regulating monthly menstrual irregularities. In this study, the author emphasis the Uterine stimulant property of this plant.

The pharmacological study of the plant Pandanus Tectorius was conducted in the pharmacology Department (Post Graduate Study Center) of Govt .Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai, Tamilnadu, India.
