The Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM)

The Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM) is established under the aegis of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam with a close association with the Brunei International Financial Centre of Ministry of Finance.

The landscape of global banking industry has taken a new transformation with the inclusion of Islamic banking and finance practices. The Islamic banking industry has currently assets exceeding US$350 billion and an annual rate of growth of about 20%. It is currently one of the most exciting financial arena to operate in and the number of participants in this area is fast increasing with a presence in about 75 countries world-wide. Islamic banking and finance is seriously supplementing and sometimes replacing many of the conventional methods of banking practices. The search for an alternative banking system is therefore real and requires a new set of experts and professionals in its implementation and development of Islamic banking and finance.

The Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM) is established under the aegis of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam with a close association with the Brunei International Financial Centre of Ministry of Finance. It is a newly formed organization (March 2006) with a mission to have a sustained and an unflinching commitment to the development of human resources in the area of Islamic banking and finance. To achieve this mission, the Centre works closely with many international core-partners such as Islamic Research and Training Institute, Jeddah. It is intended to create a learning community of industry practitioners and academicians interacting in a stimulating environment.

The Centre dedicates itself to promoting Islamic banking and finance through the provision of training, research, consultancy and academic programs at various levels. The training program is a testament to one of the premier efforts of CIBFM to develop human capital who are experts in the banking and finance industry. It is structured to meet the needs of a wide spectrum of learners – from the beginners to the more seasoned learners.
