International Network of Business and Professional Women holds Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Singapore

Singapore, 6 October 2010 -- The Federation of Business and Professional Women (Singapore) announced that it will play host to the triennial 2010 BPW Asia-Pacific Regional Conference at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore, from 15-18 October, 2010.

This is the third time that BPW Singapore is hosting this Regional Conference in Singapore.

Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, and Second Minister for Finance and Transport, Singapore will deliver the keynote address at the main conference opening on the morning of 16th October (Saturday).

Business and professional Women in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region will share their experiences around the conference theme, “Empowerment of Women to Make a Difference”. There will be panel discussions on topics such as corporate social responsibility, work-life balance and integration in businesses, and sustainable business strategies. Local panellists of high renown include Ms Claire Chiang, Senior Vice-President, Banyan Tree Holdings, Singapore, and Chair of the Employer Alliance Network in Singapore.

Other distinguished speakers include Liz Benham president of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW International) who is also president of her own company Sel Group International; and Dr. Young Hai Park, the Asia Pacific Regional Coordinator of BPW International, and the convenor of the conference. Dr Park is also an Emeritus Professor of Humanities at Korea’s Sookmyung Women’s University.

More than 120 business and professional women from Singapore, Asia Pacific, and beyond, including Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Taiwan, Thailand and USA, are expected at this four-day conference. Most are members of the BPWI network.

Business and Professional Women International (BPWI), is an 80-year old network in 96 countries worldwide, and works towards developing women’s professional and leadership potential at all levels. A key aim is to achieve equal participation of women and men in power and decision-making roles.
Madam Ng Hong, President of the Federation of BPW (Singapore) emphasised, “The aim of this conference is to inspire both business and professional women to exercise leadership and make a difference in the political, economic and social arenas. Women should be encouraged to work together with their male counterparts to make advancements in both business and societies and to achieve equal participation in power and decision-making roles.”

This Regional Conference will be held at The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, 15 October 1010 (registration begins at 1.00 pm). Tickets for the four-day conference are priced at S$450 per participant, inclusive of coffee/tea refreshments, lunches, a gala dinner, and business showcase site visits.
