New directions in US development policies: A view from Washington

IDRC lecture by development expert Todd Moss

Todd Moss

Budget shortfalls, domestic priorities, and political opposition to foreign aid. The United States – the world’s largest bilateral provider of development assistance – faces increasing pressures to its international development policy and practice.

At the same time, many of America’s development institutions and laws created decades ago have not been updated to reflect 21st century realities.

Development expert Todd Moss analyzes these trends in US development policy and forecasts what changes to expect. He also relates these trends to Canada – facing some similar issues – including how the challenges will affect the way the two countries cooperate on development.
