“In the pursuit of strengthening our internationalisation programme, Unimas is happy to partner with BSAU, which aspires to be a leader in education, training and research in engineering, science, technology and management and to play a vital role in the socio-economic progress of the country,” said Unimas Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid who represented the university at the ceremony while BSAU was represented by its Vice Chancellor Dr P Kanniappan.
He said that the MoU would establish a framework on friendship and cooperation, promotion of mutual understanding, academic, research, cultural and scientific thought and personnel exchange particularly in the fields of engineering, computer science and information technology as well as related areas.
“With BSAU’s strong emphasis on industrial exposure and linkages, I am sure both universities will benefit through technology transfer and this will certainly play a pivotal role in meeting the manpower requirement for Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score),” added Khairuddin.
With an agreement spanning a five-year period, the MoU is set to promote international academic cooperation such as institutional exchanges between faculty, staff and students from each partner institution, organisation of symposiums, conferences, workshops, short term courses and meetings on various research issues, exchange of information pertaining to developments in teaching, student development and research, and cooperation in any other areas.
Also present at the ceremony were Unimas Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Dr Peter Songan and BSAU Pro Chancellor Abdul Qadir A Rahman Buhari.
