Singapore, 28 April 2015 - Four years ago, Serene Tan came up with the idea to create a walking frame that is easier for elderly people to use. This had wheels to glide it forward, with an auto-brake system for safety. After excelling in business workshops and competitions, as well as receiving key grants, Serene successfully developed, manufactured and marketed GlydeSafe. some 150 units have been sold to customers in Singapore. Serene's next challenge is to ramp up product sales by launching GlydeSafe internationally and explore a pipeline of products for the ageing community.

To help develop such innovations, as well as raise awareness of the issues faced by the elderly, ACCESS Health International and NUS Enterprise today launched the Modern Aging programme in Singapore. Combining innovators and university technologies with a focused approach, the initiative offers Singapore the chance to make a global impact on the ageing population. Simultaneously, Modern Aging will serve as an additional pipeline for the development of Singapore's future entrepreneurs.

The programme was officially announced by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation, at InnovFest unBound 2015 (www.innovfestunbound.com), a two day innovation festival presented by NUS Enterprise and AcreWhite, focusing on the latest trends in global and Asian innovation. some 1,5000 entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, policy-makers and industry members are expected to attend this event.
