Canada's International Development Research Centre program to focus on digital innovations

A new program aims to help leverage science and advanced technologies to drive innovation and sustainable growth in developing countries.

International Development Research Centre’s Board of Governors recently approved a 5-year implementation plan for a new program that will help leverage science and advanced technologies to drive innovation and sustainable growth in developing countries.

The Networked Economies program will support research that helps developing countries use digital innovations to create inclusive economic opportunities and advance democracy. More particularly, its focus will be to:

- test and scale digital innovations to improve entrepreneurship, education, and democracy;
- connect the next billion to economic opportunities; and
- improve the governance of cyberspace.

This program strongly supports IDRC’s new strategic plan, Investing in Solutions, which will guide the Centre’s work over the next five years, sharply focusing IDRC's vision on producing knowledge, innovation, and solutions to improve lives and livelihoods in the developing world.
