2nd Annual Safety and Health Forum – OSH in Hazardous Environment

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Despite some progress made in tackling the traditional OHS problems, the accident and fatality rate due to occupation is still high especially in developing countries. It is estimated that the risk of accident in developing countries is 10 to 20 times higher than the industrialised countries

Health and safety compliance in the workplace has never been more important in the globalised world. The health of the company depends on the health of its business. The company performance in OHS indirectly but significantly contributes to business profits. Globalisation and industry growth demand that there is a paradigm shift in managing safety and the health. Despite some progress made in tackling the traditional OHS problems, the accident and fatality rate due to occupation is still high especially in developing countries. It is estimated that the risk of accident in developing countries is 10 to 20 times higher than the industrialised countries

Maintaining a conducive work environment both for health and safety of all concerned will eventually translate to productivity and profitability. Employers need to realise that safety in its entirety is an investment. Occupational safety and health management at the workplace will bring about an increase in productivity in the long term.
