About the Meeting:
This two-day meeting aims to: 1) review the development and implementation of regulations and policies on agricultural microfinance; 2) recommend measures to improve risk management, regulation and supervision, governance and sustainability of agricultural microfinance institutions (MFIs); 3) provide options for widening the frontiers of agricultural microfinance; and 4) initiate a regional network of countries that will push for the advancement of agricultural microfinance.
Expected outputs of this meeting are as follows: 1) Identified gaps in regulations and policies relevant to agricultural microfinance; 2) Action plan to improve risk management, regulation and supervision, governance and sustainability of MFIs; 3) Prioritized options and action plan for expansion of agricultural microfinance frontiers; and 4) Key agreements on the regional microfinance network including goals, structure, mechanics, etc.
Intended participants are heads of microfinance institutions, government financial regulators and policymakers, and agricultural economists and administrators. SEARCA is partnering with the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD-MRI) for the conduct of this meeting.
