Laguna, Philippines - Globalization had increasingly brought economies closer together but its palpable effects to the environment can no longer be ignored. Natural resource managers urgently need to craft local level actions and policies as well as participate in concerted efforts at the global or regional levels.

Date:
June 25-29, 2007

Venue:
SEARCA, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines

Intended audience:
Mid-level Resource Managers

About the Conference:

Globalization had increasingly brought economies closer together but its palpable effects to the environment can no longer be ignored. Production in developed countries now has local and global externalities through “Greenhouse Gas Effects”. Emissions, say, in the U.S. or Britain are now acknowledged to be potential causes of flooding in Manila or Ho Chi Minh City. Likewise, the haze from burning forests of Indonesia may have led to severe flooding in parts of the developed world.

With this alarming scenario, natural resource managers urgently need to craft local level actions and policies as well as participate in concerted efforts at the global or regional levels. Keeping oneself abreast with trends, policies, and issues surrounding global environmental problems and transforming these into concrete and effective plans is therefore called for.

In view of this, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) are conducting a 5-day executives’ forum on “Environmental Economics for Decision Making.” This forum endeavors to instill to mid-level resource managers better appreciation and added learning on recent trends and debates on global/regional resource and environmental problems and re-equip them with the knowledge on environmental and resource valuation (ERV) with emphasis on the Contingent Valuation Method or CVM. The forum is set on June 25-29, 2007 at SEARCA, Los Baños, Philippines.
