Background
Adolescence is the transitional stage of human development in which a juvenile matures into an adult. This transition involves biological (i.e. pubertal), social, and psychological changes, though the biological ones are the easiest to measure objectively. During these changes, the adolescents are faced with various challenges, including nutrition-related health issues. Tackling the nutrition issues faced by the adolescents should be of concern to all nutritionists.
The NSM would therefore like to highlight this theme “Current Concerns in Adolescent Nutrition” during the 22nd Conference of the Society. Topics that will be given particular attention include health problems affecting adolescents (eg obesity, diabetes, anaemia), eating habits and sports nutrition.
The NSM Annual Scientific Conference is the most important nutrition meeting of the year in the country. It will continue to provide a platform for its members to present their research findings in all fields of nutrition. Symposia sessions and poster presentations will be arranged. All members are invited to submit abstracts for consideration. As for previous years, a young investigator’s session will be held for undergraduate students to present their nutrition-related thesis findings orally. Universities may select two students doing research on nutrition for consideration. We will award the best undergraduate oral and poster presentation with prizes.
