"Changing Faces of Nationalism in Asia"

Tokyo Japan - In celebration of its 150-year anniversary next year, Keio University will organize a two-day workshop for graduate students entitled "Changing Faces of Nationalism in Asia" on 26-27 March 2007.

Where does nationalism come from? How does it relate to our daily life? And where will it go?

Nationalism pervades our modern life. It operates like a subconscious compass for who we are, that altogether distinguishes "us" from "them". It is paradoxical as it is pervasive. It constructs political bonds, cultural ties, and social relations, while at the same time induces conflicts. Needless to say, nationalism has many forms of manifestation; and they are changing along with history.
