WORLD INNOVATION FORUM

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - The WIF will focus on key issues in the research and innovation for sustainability

10TH – 11TH August 2007

Malaysia desires to be a part of the worldwide sustainable development efforts and was proud to be a part of the inaugural World Innovation Forum (WIF) convened in the Netherlands in 2006. For this year, University Sains Malaysia was selected to hold the forum. The forum discusses the latest issues on technological, sociological and research trends in innovating sustainable development, with expert guidance from an international panel of speakers and chairpersons.

WIF OBJECTIVES

* to provide opportunities to PECIPTA and also local higher learning institutions to promote their innovations to international arena
* to host WIF Conference where the inaugural WIF was held in Holland in 2006
* to exhibit R&D products from abroad as an additional element in PECIPTA
* to promote concept of innovation to local higher learning institutions by highlighting related issues and current topics
* to connect local innovators to international networks

THEME

Innovating Towards Sustainability (Same theme to that of PECIPTA’s)

FOCUS

Key issues in the field of research and innovation for sustainability, focusing on

* How innovations can help develop the commercial value of research products
* How local institutions of higher learning can use the innovation concepts that run parallel with sustainability element in the field of networking, intellectual property rights, developing research parks and for the purpose of commercialisation
* How innovation tools can be of value
* How innovation and sustainability can synergized and strengthened
