Islamic Conference of Ministers of Health
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Besides the participation of the OIC affiliated institutions such as the Islamic Development Bank, ISESCO, COMSTECH, various esteemed health-related international authorities and entities, namely the World Health Organization, UNICEF, CDC-US will also participate in this exclusive event.
The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Health which will be held between 12 and 15 June 2007 at the Sunway Lagoon Resort & Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This conference, with the theme of “Health: The Impetus Towards Islamic Solidarity” will be officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Abdullah bin Hj. Ahmad Badawi who is currently the Chairman of the 10th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The OIC Health Ministerial Conference consists of a two-day symposium followed by meetings of the Senior Officers of Health and two-day Conference of Ministers of Health of the OIC Member States. This conference is organized in line with the OIC Ten-Year Programme of Action adopted by the Makkah Extraordinary Summit of 2005, with reference to part II and IV under the Development, Socio-Economic and Scientific Issues. It is also considered as a follow-up to the “Second Annual Meeting of the Self Reliance in Vaccine Production Programme (SRVP) among the OIC Vaccine Producing Countries” held in Kuala Lumpur in April 2005 pursuant to the resolution adopted by the 10th Islamic Summit in 2003
Besides the participation of the OIC affiliated institutions such as the Islamic Development Bank, ISESCO, COMSTECH, various esteemed health-related international authorities and entities, namely the World Health Organization, UNICEF, CDC-US will also participate in this exclusive event.
The Ministerial Conference is scheduled to address a number of issues, namely, the issues of various current topics of concerns, which include emerging infectious diseases, global eradication of poliomyelitis, international health regulations and pandemic human/Avian influenza preparedness plan.
At the end of this conference, a declaration known as the "Kuala Lumpur OIC 2007" will be issued and endorsed by the conference for realization in the next few years.
