International Hacking Competition 2007

Selangor, Malaysia - This event is organised by Universiti Teknologi Mara. It is open to the public.

Basically there will be 8 programs that will be held in this event. There are:

1. International Hacking Competition 2007
2. Student Computer Security Project Presentation
3. Computer Security Exhibition
4. Computer Security Seminar
5. Computer Security Awareness Talk
6. Hack And Defense Workshop
7. PC Modification and Security Competition
8. Hacking Demonstration

Organized by:
Data Communication And Networking Society (NETS)
Faculty Of Information Technology And Quantitative Sciences
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

1st Category – Capture The Flag (CTF)

The CTF game will be similar to the War game in pulltheplug.org website. Players log in to the web server (https), and start the game. There will be a few more servers which has the actual flags. The web server has the instructions on how to obtain these flags. Solving these problems in the web server will give them a flag. Players submit the answer on the same page where they get the problems. We are providing a few set of questions to prevent team from sharing information. All players will get the same number of questions, but it will be slightly difference.

Participant : Open to public and student

Group : Must 3 persons per group

Fees :
RM 150.00 per group for student (please attach your student card as a prove)
RM 200.00 per group for not student

Limitation : 2 groups only per organization / university

CTF Participants should be expected to be able to:

0. Familiar with most common OS command (windows and linux)
1. Understand all basic hacking skill such as port scanning, information gathering, enumeration of user account, etc.
2. Know how to find and use exploit as and when necessary.
3. Familiar with web based attack such as SQL injection, PHP attacks, etc
4. Ability reverse engineer binary and find vulnerability
5. Writing buffer overflow exploit

2nd Category – Computer Forensic Challenges

It will include both the basic and the code audit skill. The participants will be given source code to look for simple bug and write an exploit.

You will be given some log files from the server and you need to analyze these logs in order to know what is happening to this server. You will need to explain the scenario in written form. Winner will be judge based on how many attack that they have analyzed on the log files. If there is a tie, the group with the highest level of attack difficulty analyzed, will be declared as the winner.
