Business and Science Programme of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2007

The 6th Asia-Pacific Weeks take place from September 10 to 23, 2007 and will be dedicated to the motto:
„Asia-Pacific: Changing the World“.

The biannual event of the Asia-Pacific- Weeks (APW) is an initiative of the Governing Mayor of Berlin. It is Europe’s foremost platform for political, economic, cultural and science dialogue and exchange with the partner countries in the Asia-Pacific- Region. It promotes the slogan on Berlin as “Gateway to Asia”.
The Asia-Pacific Forum Berlin, strategic advisor of the APW, is the initiator and coordinator of the Business and Science Programme. It will focus on innovative and sustainable technology and knowhow exchange for Urban Infrastructure and on Creative Industries. Potentials of cooperation between major cities and mega-cities will be assessed in the fields of Transport and Mobility, City Planning, Architecture, Energy, Water, Waste Management, ICT, Life Sciences and more, as well as at the crossover of culture and business in Design, Fashion, Film, Music and New Media.

For responding to the actual interest and needs of our Asian partners and to promote technological cooperation in state-of-theart technology and know-how exchange based on mutual partnership relevant for our common future, we assessed and analysed the National Innovation Systems (NIS) of major Asian countries and selected the most urgent topics.

The Business and Science Programme is basically consisting of three conference clusters:
Urban Sustainability Conference

The USC will host at its opening on September 11, high-ranking national and international actors from the spheres of politics, business and science. Expert conferences on all relevant aspects of urban infrastructure will follow from September 12 to 15.

Venue is Berlin City Hall

Conference on Multilateral Economic Cooperation with the ASEAN
The CMEC-ASEAN, a joint project of the APFB and the ASEAN Embassies in Berlin, takes place on September 18/19 and is a ministry- level event with participants from the ASEAN and the EU. The conference will focus on cooperation as regards environmental issues, energy-politics and trade.
Venue will be Berlin City Hall.

Creative Industries Conference
The CIC from September 19 to 23 aims to foster long- term collaborations with partners of the Asia-Pacific countries in cultural industries, product development, creative applications of technology and media, and in information transfer. The CIC encompasses radio and music projects, digital media, communication and product design, fashion projects, networking, lifestyle, city planning and community. The thematic foci are: Interculturality, Media Literacy, and Knowledge Transfer.
