Fourth Annual urban environmental management (UEM) Networks Meeting

Bandung, Indonesia - The Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications (SEA-UEMA) Project is a five-year partnership program between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), aims to improve the urban environmental management (UEM) policies and good practices in the region.

1. BACKGROUND

The Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications (SEA-UEMA) Project—a joint initiative
between Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Canadian International Development Agency
(CIDA)—aims to improve the urban environmental conditions in this region through good urban
environmental management (UEM) policies and practices in three key urban environmental subsectors of
solid waste, air pollution and water and sanitation in Canadian ODA eligible countries in Southeast Asia.

Gender equality and the environment are the two cross-cutting themes of the Project. To help in attaining its major goal, the SEAUEMA Project has established three sub-sector networks and
a UEM graduate network since 2004.

This meeting will serve as a venue for the members to discuss the
functioning of the networks as well as exchange information and provide inputs to the SEA-UEMA Project
on its current activities and future plans particularly for networks sustainability.

2. OBJECTIVES
This fourth annual meeting aims to:
a. Share experiences and lessons learned related to SEA-UEMA activities (ADP, JAR, pilot projects, SNP
activities, graduate education, etc);
b. Promote the activities and results of active network members and partners;
c. Discuss to strengthen the functioning of the networks including gender equality-related activities;
d. Develop strategies and propose actions for the sustainability of the networks; and
e. Share experiences and discuss on dissemination

4. PARTICIPANTS
The participants for the regional networks meeting are active network members of the SEA-UEMA Project
who are urban environmental managers, engineers and policy makers in eight Southeast Asian countries
(Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam). The target
would be those who have completed or are implementing partnership activities under the Project. About
thirty representatives will be invited based on the selection by SEA-UEMA Project Management Team.
