BACKGROUND
APEC economies are more interconnected than ever before and have come to understand the critical role that an educated and skilled workforce plays in ensuring sustainable growth in the 21st century. To truly compete in the global marketplace, APEC economies must continue to search for innovative human resource development strategies. The demands of the global economy require that economies go a step beyond effective education and training programs to efforts that incorporate human resource development into their larger economic strategies.

CONFERENCE PURPOSE
The conference will provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and promising practices among APEC economies on innovative human resource development strategies and ways to effectively link human resource and economic development in order to increase global competitiveness.

HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT WORKING GROUP (HRDWG)
The conference is endorsed by APEC’s HRDWG. Established in 1990, the goal of human resources development in APEC is to promote the well-being of all people in the region through economic growth and development. HRDWG has an important role to play in achieving the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment.
The HRDWG conducts work programs to develop human resources on issues ranging from education to labor to capacity building. The HRDWG conducts its work program through its three networks:
