FRIM, Malaysia - The theme : “Strengthening Bioinformatics Capabilities in Forest Biotechnology”

Introduction
The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) will hold the 3rd Seminar on Forest
Biotechnology 2008 (3rd SFB’08) from 11 to 12 November 2008 in Auditorium FRIM,
Kepong, Selangor D. E.

The theme of seminar is Strengthening Bioinformatics Capabilities in Forest Biotechnology. Bioinformatics, broadly defined as computational technologies has
become indispensable to biotechnology R&D leading to creation of knowledge and
wealth.

The National Biotechnology Policy 2005 has emphasized the importance of bioinformatics to accelerate the biotechnology with the aims of conserving natural resources and generating wealth from tropical forests. Thus, this seminar is focused on examining the current bioinformatics capabilities and laying the way forward to realize the national vision and creating future economy.

Scopes & Objectives
1 Deliberation of National agendas on bioinformatics
2 Assessment of bioinformatics capabilities in forest biotechnology
3 Establishment of collaboration among the RIs and the private sectors in the
area of bioinformatics
4 As a forum to discuss human capital development in bioinformatics
