One Day Seminar on Engineering and Environmental Geophysics

Site characterisation traditionally relies on closely spaced boreholes, which is relatively expensive when compared to the use of subsurface geophysics used in conjunction with a few boreholes.

Determining the stratigraphy and physical properties of soils at building sites can be a challenging task, since soils are naturally inhomogenous, and its characteristic can vary drastically within very small distances and depths. Site characterisation traditionally relies on closely spaced boreholes, which is relatively expensive when compared to the use of subsurface geophysics used in conjunction with a few boreholes. Of the many geophysical methods available, seismic refraction and electrical imaging have proven to be the most effective.
