A Media Workshop for Researchers - ‘How to promote your research to the international media’

Conducted by Ruth Francis, Head of Press for Nature and Richard Stone, Asia Editor for Science. Registration deadline is 5th of November 2012.

Many researchers choose to do research to understand and make the world a better place. Yet, much of this excellent research is unknown beyond specialist circles. The media holds the key to bringing your message to a wider public.

However, engaging with the media is not always easy and to effectively engage with the media, you need to recognise how it works. This workshop will give you the grounding you need to fully understand and engage with the international media.

The one-day workshop will cover:
● Introduction to the international media
● Understanding the media process
● Why and how to talk to the media - rules of engagement
● Pitching stories – What stories to tell and who to tell your story to
● How to write a press release (headlines, what, where, who, why)
● Interview and press conference tips
● Handling difficult or controversial research
