DGIST and the University of Illinois, USA host a joint workshop on physical AI

Bringing top Korean and foreign scholars and companies together to present a roadmap for next-generation AI technology

□ DGIST(President Kunwoo Lee) announced that the Strategic Promotion Team for Physical AI will host the 2025 Workshop on Embodied AI/Physical AI in collaboration with Professor Kim Joo-hyung from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on Friday, June 13, at Mod Lounge, Hakdong, Seoul.

□ The workshop is held to share the latest research achievements and technological development directions in the field of physical artificial intelligence (physical AI)—where AI perceives, judges, and acts on its own in the physical environment. The workshop also aims to strengthen technical cooperation and creative networks among local and foreign experts and companies.

□ Along with researchers from leading South Korean research institutes, including DGIST, Seoul National University, and KAIST, researchers from the University of Illinois, Carnegie Mellon University, and Pennsylvania State University will participate in the event. The workshop is expected to facilitate active exchanges between industry and the academe, as representatives from major South Korean companies, including LG Electronics and HD Hyundai Robotics, as well as promising startups, such as ROBOTIS, WIRobotics, and Holiday Robotics, will also be in attendance.

□ The workshop consists of five sessions: (1) Definition and limitations of physical AI, (2) Sensor fusion and real-time inference technology, (3) Evolution of human–robot interaction, (4) Industrial and social application cases, and (5) Future technology roadmap. The presentations will be followed by in-depth panel discussions with principal investigator-level researchers.
