M.S. student Sejin Kim and Jungwoo Kim(Advising professor: Professor Sungjin Lee), in the department of Information and Communication Engineering, DGIST received the “Outstanding Paper Award” at the Korea Computer Congress 2021 (KCC 2021) organized by the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers. KCC is the largest computer society conference in South Korea.
The conference was held both online and offline for three days, from June 23rd to June 25th. 78 papers were submitted in the field of computer systems, and 6 papers were selected as outstanding papers.
Sejin Kim and Jungwoo Kim conducted research on a scalable system for memory-intensive embedding layers, which are currently used in various applications such as deep learning-based recommendation systems and natural language processing. Their research paper, entitled as 'A Scalable Embedded Memory System Using Near-data Processing' was selected as an outstanding paper at the conference.
Sejin said, "by receiving the award, I will be able to have more confident in my current research and will continue my hard work to be an outstanding researcher in the field of system technology for deep learning."
In addition, Jungwoo said, "I'm really thankful to my academic adviser, Prof. Sungjin Lee, who have guided me so far, and also honored about the fact that I was able to show such a good result. Both my university and my academic adviser have helped me in many ways." He further added, "I will use this as an opportunity to concentrate more on my research."
